Atomic Habits

Habits shape our lives and they can determine life’s outcome.

There are 4 laws: Make it Obvious, Attractive, Easy, & Satisfying

How to Start

Intrinsic motivation – Start by focusing on who you wish to become.
“I am an early riser”, “I am a runner”
Make a statement – “When situation X arises, I will perform Y.”

Habit Stacking – “After I get back from my lunch break, I will call 5 potential clients (need). After I make 5 calls, I will watch YouTube (want).”

How to Maintain

All the best photos were produced by the quantity group (vs. quality group)

Jerry Seinfeld – “Never break the chain” of writing jokes every day. Focus on showing up.

Victor Hugo needed to finish his book by a certain date. He asked an assistant to lock the clothes away. – making bad habits harder to perform.

Showing up on bad days is the key to success. It’s about being the type of person who doesn’t miss workouts. It is easy to train when you feel good but it is crucial to show up when you don’t feel like it. It reaffirms your identity.

Successful people feel the same lack of motivation. The difference is that they find a way to show up despite the feelings of boredom.
